Sexy Chic at The Hilton

Just looking at these stunning images by Jim Liaw Photography sends my heart-a-flutter. The bold colours, the sexy edge, the stunning floral design and the beautiful details on the wedding dresses. Need I go on? This is another wedding that took a departure from the expected apprehension of a traditional Chinese sit-down dinner. From the tasteful application of bold colours to the programme of the evening, the wedding epitomised the bridal personality to a T with lots of sugar and a dash of spice. Read on for more details from the perspective of the floral designer, Wishing Tree.

From the floral designer: Is there anything more special and memorable than a perfectly-put together party? There’s got to be something to be said about a wedding party that has all the details planned out – like the chic wedding dinner reception of Michelle and Wye Hon, held at The Hilton, PJ. Michelle wanted a black and fuchsia color theme that was understated yet feminine and sexy. This is Natasha’s interpretation of “Chanel-inspired chic” that comes in a color palette of black, silver and fuchsia, with different shades of pink.

Blooms of roses where seen everywhere! On the stairs, on the stage and on the wedding cake. The theme flowers for the evening were hydrangeas, roses and carnations in white and shades of pink. The centerpiece of the main table was customised with black Swarovski crystals arranged in a crisscross pattern to complement the theme as well as to symbolise Michelle and Wye Hon’s initials. Stationery for the evening was done in black flourish designs and the iconic Chanel quilt, as seen in the menu above. Place cards and table cards were also done in the theme colors with accents of fuchsia. Michelle comes from Kuching so it was such a great idea to give away authentic Sarawak black and white pepper which were so prettily wrapped in a miniature jar!

Our couple’s eight-tiered cake was definitely the tallest we had ever seen…yet it was simple, elegant and commanded quite a presence on stage. We love that the posies on the stairs and the stage were “double-duty arrangements”, as we call them. Before dinner, the flowers were the centerpiece for each guest table in the ballroom. When the Chinese-style banquet commenced, the banquet staff brought the flowers up front to decorate the stairs and the stage for the cake-cutting ceremony and toasts later. We are a great believer of reusing so this was just wonderful!

King of Aces, Queen of Hearts

Kis reserved for the King of Aces, Queen of Hearts and the show of hands by power pair Nupts & Such and La Flaire at The Westin Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. When I got the e-mail from Eileen, I instantly knew this would be an Ace up her sleeves. I’m humming to Viva Las Vegas as I’m posting this up simply because the decoration is so captivating! If you’ve seen their previous Passionate Red event and loved every bit of it, then you would break out in a gyrating Elvis signature dance pose when you see these photos from the wedding of William and Adelena but don’t be misled because it’s a far cry from the stereotyped Vegas-themed parties. This wedding is tastefully done, dangerously sexy yet elegantly jazzy and almost burlesque. The sublime ante of Vegas were evident yet understated. A beautiful play indeed.

Here’s the ‘full monty’ from the wedding planner, Eileen Lui: The couple wanted an interesting theme to go with their chosen colours – Black and red for their wedding. It took a bit of a long process to get the right theme because both of them had different views and personalities as well. When we came up with the Las Vegas theme, both Adelena and William totally embraced this theme and to take it one step further – their honeymoon (as we write this) is in Las Vegas!

The entire wedding decor, from table linens to the designer chair covers to the custom-made table centrepieces were specially designed by the creative director from the La Flaire team. Part of the decor which also doubled up as a guest escort card were the specially printed poker chips which helped remind guests of their assigned table numbers. The Vegas-themed invitation card and couple’s monogram was designed by a family friend who is an award-winning creative director in Malaysia. We used the existing Martin Architectural Lighting at Westin to create the Vegas effect – a bit of mystery, a bit of snazziness. Something interesting for the couple’s entrance was them being sporting enough to do a song. They did a duet to the song ‘Lucky’ by Jason Mraz for their grand entrance, accompanied by Adelena’s cousin on the guitar.

Adelena and William have also pledged a donation to the Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better Organization from the budget allocated for wedding favours. Thus, for the wedding favours, we had created cookies molded in the shape of hearts and clubs with their personal message gift tags announcing that they have made a donation on behalf of the guests. We at Nupts & Such constantly encourage our clients to partake in noble causes!

Contemporary Chinese Tea Ceremony & Putrajaya Cruise (Part 3)

“Dear Joveyn, my one and only lover. You’re my hottest colour. I want to be your Mini Cooper. To be your all-time favourite. I’ll always be your shade, for all the rainy days. To be your private jet, for all your holidays. I wanna be your best date, no facebook whatsapp sms. We will enjoy our dinner plate, no iPhone sticking to my face. I’ll be your vending machine, loaded with surprises, gifts and love. A KIOSK that always pleases my queen, like the stars and sun above. Between you and my Beemer, I never will think twice. No matter sea or river, you’ll always be my first choice. Today I make you my wife. The choice will be for life. Even when we’re ninety-five, you will still be the love of my life.”    -Henry-

You’ve seen their sweet, beautiful garden wedding in Sabah, the Land Below the Wind. Probably swooned over their uber-cool, elegant  tiffany blue ballroom wedding held in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Today, we embrace the rich cultural aspect of our tradition as we bring you some interesting photos of their Marriage Registration and Chinese Tea Ceremony. Prior to their dinner reception, Henry and Joveyn had their official registration onboard a cruise boat at Putrajaya and a contemporary Chinese tea ceremony which were witnessed by just a handful of closest friends and family.

From the photographers: Joveyn and Henry, such a loving and fun couple. At one glance you would instantly know that these two people were a match made in heaven. The ROM they had was a really interesting one because it was held on a Cruise Boat in Putrajaya. It was an intimate and very private event with family members and bridal party with lots of love and laughter. Luckily enough, we were blessed with good weather as it did start to drizzle as we boarded the boat. At this point, Joveyn seemed a little worried and disappointed that the weather was acting up. As always, I as the trained FIFOTO wedding photographer assured her it will clear up and it won’t be raining when we want to head up to deck for shots. Guess what, it stopped the moment we headed up (FIFOTO weather strikes again)!! Had quite a lot of fun shooting as the Heng Tai’s and Chi Mui’s were a crazy fun bunch. Henry & Joveyn went all out for the traditional bridal games in the morning. And finally, after weeks of hearing about the infamous Mini since the ROM shoot, I finally got to see the cute white car tied with a huge ribbon! This was a gift from Henry to Joveyn as a wedding present! Talk about setting the bar high!

This couple really had everything they wanted, cleverly segmented into various occasions of their celebration. The wedding entourage and bridal games are by far the most colour coordinated ones we’ve seen to-date. Everything was in the shade of pink or red, right down to the shade of ‘ink’ used for the games. What’s even more interesting is the fact that the groomsmen were so well prepared that they started off in full throttle after a round of Tongkat Ali. In fact, they were one step ahead as they brought a suitcase of ‘cash’ to entice the ladies and came prepared with a wedding vow for the final round of ‘challenge’ before entering the bridal room. After the bridesmaids made the men wear silly ribbons on their head and danced to the song by the Wonder Girls, the groomsmen, being a real sport, wore it as a bow tie to the dinner reception. All in the name of FUN!

Tiffany Tree of Life (Part 2)

Grab your wedding binders, iPad, note pad or bookmark this page so you can revisit the page again to jot down all the gorgeous little details that went into this wedding! Happy 2011 and to kick start the new year on a high note, we present to you … the Pandora World of Henry and Joveyn – right at the heart of where it all began when Henry first spotted Joveyn at a corporate event held at the ballroom of Westin Kuala Lumpur. Thus, a seed of love was planted, slowly nurtured and beautifully blossomed into a happy beginning of shared laughters, moments, hopes and dreams. Inspired by sci-fi movie Avatar, the ‘tree of life’ concept was adopted to create a sophisticated, futuristic fantasy wedding infused with Joveyn’s fashion-forward sense of style and Henry’s technopreneurial personality. From Anya Hindmarch’s iconic ribbon which inspired the design of the couple’s monogram to Martha Stewart’s ‘Which Tree Do You Fall From?’ conversation starters, the dinner ballroom was transformed into an ultimate canvas of Avatar-inspired winter luxe, capped off with the notably beautiful floral designs by Wishing Tree.

From the planner: To create a three-sixty twist of ambience, the ballroom was actually a complete opposite of the cocktail foyer. The foyer was decked out in vibrant colours of shocking pink, tiffany blue, lime green and purple for a chic Japanese-themed setup to reflect the couple’s admiration for all things Japanese. After all, it was also in Japan that Henry got down on his knees and proposed to Joveyn, when she was making a wish upon a crystal Christmas tree at the Crystal Museum! The guests lists were hung from the lanterns, both as part of the overall setting, and as a way to control the flow of guests so that everyone will not be crowded at one spot. The couple introduced all their favourite places in Japan via photos that came with their own personal ‘tips’. But above all that, it was the Japanese candy bar that got the most attention! Beyond the physical aesthetics, we linked birth dates to the Tree of Life concept to ensure a continuity of the overall theme, a wonderful conversation starter inspired by Martha Stewart.

Passionate Red

What better way to bid farewell to two-thousand-and-ten and welcome the new year with a BOLD, passionate wedding! I would have loved to be a guest at this wedding. A visually stunning styling of intimate, Viking style setting with a killer colour combo of fiery red, maroon and majestic purple. I never knew red on red (and so much red) could look SSssooooooo good!! Another fantastic wedding tastefully done by event couturier, La Flaire. Once guests walked into the venue, they were instantly enveloped by a very powerful sense of energy, which totally summed up the personality of the couple, bold, daring and sophisticated. Passionately so ..

For this post, WedInk Tattle decided to speak to the designers at La Flaire on the conceptual part of decor.

Why did you choose these specific colours?
La Flaire: The clients were gamed on having something bold and oozing with passion. So we created a set that had contrasting colours despite both the colours being bold.

What were the details incorporated into the wedding?
La Flaire: We had draped the entire venue in maroon fabric and the deep purple was just an accentuating colour to add to the mix. We had deep purple incorporated into the napkins, chair sashes, and roses. The rest were all maroon! Very passionate indeed!

Any challenges you faced in planning the wedding?
La Flaire: Well, we were apprehensive at first at the colours – two bold, contrasting colours. However, we presented a mock-up set to the clients and they loved it!

Any advice to readers on working with colours?
La Flaire: Wedding colours need not just be romantic pastels…. think about bold, contrasting colours to make a marked impression on the guests as they enter your reception venue.
