Mediterranean-inspired Wedding

Most of the weddings featured on this blog have been rather elaborate but today’s featured wedding is absolutely down-to-earth in rustic autumn colours and a touch of green. It’s the epitome of Mediterranean simplicity. All you need is a good venue with sun-drenched walls and a touch of creativity by infusing the warmth of a Tuscan-inspired countryside with simple enhancements. Say hello to these lovely images by Jenny Sun Photography for the wedding of Ian and May Yee. Can you believe this wedding was held right smack in the heart of Bangsar?

As a singer, songwriter and the theatre manager of KL PAC and Actor’s Studio, Ian Chow composed a song for May Yee and sang it during the dinner. Their wedding entourage, aptly called it the Happy Everything Production because “anything and everything goes.. so as long as everyone’s having fun”. The wedding entourage, all of whom are part of the Young KL Singers (YKLS), performed a medley of songs throughout the evening. For the wedding favours, Ian and May Yee gave away CDs containing their favourite love songs including self-composed songs by Ian. The CDs also doubled as seating indicators, beautifully designed by graphic designer, Joel Wong. A very intimate wedding with lots of singing, dancing and merriment.

From Natasha Khoo: The bride, May Yee is the most laid back bride I’ve ever met. She wanted the decor to be as simple as possible, with some flowers to enhance the existing interior of the room and not overkill the place. She gave us a free hand in the decor and her friends, Kenneth and Yeow made all the decisions on behalf! How cool is that. If only all brides are like that. At first, we weren’t sure if orchids would work because they are tropical flowers and we were aiming for a Mediterranean ambience. But to work within the budget, we took the risk and it certainly paid off because the outcome was just as stunning. Their friend, Joel designed all the stationery using a mix of printed and rubber stamped finishing for the paper mats, birds and owls cutouts. The wedding was so intimate and relaxed that it felt like a party instead of a wedding. Everyone was mingling around, walking from table to table, dancing and having fun!

Love is in the Air (Part 2)

Any couples planning their weddings can attest that the real purpose of THE day can sometimes get lost in the whims and fancies of managing family affairs and the stress of trying to please everyone.  A wedding should not be about meeting the expectations of others. Kenny and PC perfectly understood the essence of the big day and stood true to their individuality in honouring their parents, expressing their love for one another and cherishing the guests in attendance in their own special way.

Be prepared to be swaddled in the fuzzy warmth of purple!

To Love and Laughter and Happily Every After… how apt is that! Love this cute candid shot of the groom, his father and the bride’s father at the entrance.

To set the evening on the right mood, the emcee got everyone to sing-along to Beatles’ All You Need is Love for the bridal entrance. After the cocktails and cake-cutting, everyone adjourned for dinner. PC’s good friend Rafizah lent her singing talent for the evening whilst the groomsmen did a rendition of Carpenter’s On Top of the World and the bridesmaids recited a poem. The tables were labeled according to the couple’s favourite love songs, the same songs that were played throughout the evening. The cocktail foyer was converted to an after dinner dance area and guests partied till 2am.

Notice the love quote on the cake topper?

PC’s fashionable sense was evident in her bridal style. From the rule-breaking white cheong sam for the tea ceremony (which is usually a big no-no for chinese weddings) to the dark majestic purple evening gown, PC is indeed the queen of mavericks. Even the symbolism, such as birds and butterflies were abundant in shades of black, white and dark purple.

Truly, the couple is blessed to be surrounded by so much love!

Love is in the Air (Part 1)

Lil’ bit of vintage, lil’ bit of goth and a whole lot of lovin’! Kenny and PC have officially gone into our books as one of the coolest, nonconformist wedding couples (by Asian standards). For one, they have perfected the art of combining contrasting elements into perfect harmony, making it a one-of-a-kind wedding that they can proudly call it their very own signature wedding style.

Secondly, their wedding was filled to the brim with personal touches and details that were evident at every nook and corner of the room. That beautiful mix of lacy femininity with sexy glam, funky goth and old-fashioned vintage in a classy, cozy space right smack in the hustle and bustle of the golden triangle of Kuala Lumpur. What’s not to love about this wedding?

Here are the awesome shots that tell a thousand words by the sassy and talented photographer, Grace of Stories by Integricity Visuals.

This cute RING PILLOW made of egg shells and clay is the exact detail that personifies ‘one-of-a-kind’!

Sometimes when one is so happy, you’ll feel like ‘shouting it from the rooftops and writing it on the skyline!’ Well, this is another reason why this music-themed wedding is so awesome. While they did not literally shout it from the rooftops, they picked the penthouse of Bankers Club at Plaza Amoda as the ultimate venue of choice for their wedding. The floor to ceiling glass windows were decorated with love quotes and phrases that Kenny and PC wrote to each other over the years. And certainly, words can’t describe the overwhelming love and happiness as Kenny and PC tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony chaired by Reverend Dr. Isaac from World Harvest Church.

Even the bridal pick up was brimming with purplelicious details *Sorry Grace, I have to borrow your new coined word!* The groom arrived in style fully prepared to embrace the challenges the bridesmaids have in-stored for him and his entourage. Extra brownie points to the groom and his entourage for being so sporting. Even under 37  °C of heat, they were cool as cucumbers doing the head-banging, air guitar band riffs, fully suited up and looking stylishly suave at that too.

Besides the matching ties and bridesmaids dresses, they also had matching balloons, organzas, paper pom poms and a sleek Rolls Royce to ‘up’ the style factor. For those who want to see more.. MORE …. MORE

… stay tuned for more purplelicious fabulosity in Part 2, coming up next!
