Rustic Provence

Gordes lavender field, Sault, FranceThis travel blog photo’s source is from a TravelPod page: Driving through the Provence countryside

Pack your bags! Let’s take an imaginative journey charmed by the Mediterranean nature in its true glory. Today’s moodboard is inspired by the rustic lavender outdoors of Sault, Provence (pronounced as ‘soo’ in English). Situated on the border of a great wooded plateau, Sault is an old fortified village perched along the top of a high ridge overlooking a wide valley of lavender fields on its west and south. This moodboard is down-to-earth, relaxed and totally inspiring for those who do not want the fuss of bing bang weddings.

1. PROVENCE COUNTRYSIDE
Plan a honeymoon to Provence or head off to this beautiful countryside for a pre-wedding/engagement session at Sault and/or its neighbouring towns. Sault is one of 6 privileged sites in France chosen for protection by UNESCO due to the quality and beauty of the environment. Lavender fields bloom from late June to mid October, depending on the seasonal weather so be sure to do a thorough research before you make your travel arrangement. Best time to travel/shoot is from the last week in June through to July.

2. A VINTAGE TALE
A vintage journal by Bibliographica (New Zealand) on Etsy which makes a good finishing touch to your wedding details. With 36 pages of tea-stained, hand-torn paper made in Italy by Fabriano and complimented by vintage inspired paper featuring burgundy botanical designs, it also makes a good momento if used as a guestbook.

3. LAVENDER ICE-CREAM
Serving ice-cream as a dessert would be like having double cherries on top of the icing of an already awesome wedding. Who wouldn’t love ice-creams? And lavender-flavoured ice-cream is unconventional especially if you are serving Asian menu. If you have the time, try out this lavender gelato recipe by James K McNair.

4. HIPPY CHIC
Evita Peroni’s Winter 2011 collection includes Art Deco inspired jewellery in 70’s hippie chic styling.

5. CAMERON HIGHLANDS RESORT, MALAYSIA
Set amidst tea plantations and rolling hills, this boutique hideaway promises all the splendour, romance and nostalgia of a nostalgic colonial heritage with its tall French doors, timber-beamed ceilings and plantation shutters. Suitable for intimate weddings.

6. RING BEARER BOOK STACK
This ring bearer book stack is such a great touch to your rustic wedding. An idea by Dainty Woods on Etsy.

7. GRAND WEDDING TEA
A festive tea to celebrate life’s momentous occasions from TWG Tea (Singapore). This black tea is blended with white flowers and breathtaking exotic fruits.

For those of us living in tropical countries, we may not get to enjoy the beauty (and privilege) of having fresh or dried lavenders at our weddings. So, just speak to your local florists and I’m sure they’d be able to recommend alternative purple flowers. For starters, you can also consider Agapanthus, Hyacinth or purple Carnation.

From left to right: Purple Agapanthus, Purple Hyacinth and Purple bouquet of carnations.
